During the month of March 2017, REMODEL and CÚRAM researchers participated in the CÚRAM’s initiative Teachers in Residence programme, which had the aim of supporting both primary and secondary school teachers in science education. We worked directly with teachers to help develop content for the classroom through the discussion of lesson plans and activities.
In this activity, we were able to share with the teachers subjects regarding musculoskeletal and tendon areas from an anatomical and mechanical perspective as well as the current strategies to tackle clinical conditions associated with these structures. With this activity, we hope to contribute to bring science closer to the younger generations and inspire the researchers of the future, meanwhile supporting teachers in their labour of education.

The next enrolment for the Teachers in Residence programme will begin in September 2017. Lesson plans and classroom activities developed during the programme will be shared with all participants and online. The resources developed will constitute a ‘learning module’ about CÚRAM and MedTech in Ireland, that links with multiple streams and themes in the primary and junior cycle curricula.
